If you're anything like me, you use the same makeup day-in, day-out and toss all other makeup to the side. I get given beautiful makeup for Christmas' and birthdays' but never end up using them - I find that eye shadow palettes are the worse. I always vow that I will use them this time, but never do. I think it's the fear of trying something new.
All of these looks were created with this eye shadow palette. |
But this week, I experimented and realised that actually, there are so many different looks that can be made from just one palette. So this is for all the girls out there who are the same - put down that eye shadow that you have been using since you were 16, it's time to try something different.
I am a big fan a mixing two colours together, I think it is gives the extra-special something. For all of the below looks, I did it this way - First of all, I took the first colour and applied it from the inside of my eyelid until mid way, I continued until I had coloured the first half of my lid. I then took the second colour and started from midway - where the first colour stops - to the outside of my lid. I applied both colours with a eyeshadow brush. I then took a spare brush to mix the two colours together in the middle - not too much though, otherwise you won't be able to see the difference between the colours.
Second colour: White
The 'smokey eye' look. Everyone talks about it, but not everyone can do it. Despite black being a dark colour, there something about it that makes your eyes pop - that's why mascara and eye-liners are usually black. Mixing it with it's opposite colour takes the edge off a little and makes your eyes look softer. Many people go for white for the inside colour (try it and see what you prefer) but the inside colour is normally the colour people first see, meaning that black - a colour that makes your eyes pop - will look more striking to everyone else.
First colour: Pink
Second colour: Light blue
This is for those of you that aren't afraid of a little colour. I called it 'the contrast'. In theory, the colours shouldn't go together, but there's something about it that just shouts 'YES!'. But be careful with this one, choose wisely where you choose to wear this look, I wouldn't recommend it for an office job but would recommend it for a night out - these colours with a pink and blue dress will be gorgeous! Same as the one above, you can try it either way - try with the light blue inside and the pink outside and see which look you most prefer, or better yet, try with other bright colours... orange and purple will be very interesting!
Second colour: Pink
This my favourite out of all three looks - it's just so pretty and feminine. As you can see, personally, I normally put the dark colour on the inside as that's my preference, but you can try so many different looks. Now this look you can wear to the office - just be careful though - and you can also wear it on many different occasions too - whether it's on a date or out with the girls! I used a different shade of pink to the look above as I thought that it would compliment the purple better than a brighter pink.
When you have a spare couple of hours, grab your eye shadow makeup and see how many different, gorgeous looks you can make. Remember to step out of your comfort zone, otherwise you're not going to know what actually suits you and what doesn't. You might surprise yourself!
