NEW YORK: 12 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you have followed me on social media for the past week, you'll probably know that I have been to New York... as in the BIG APPLE! The experience is one that I will never forget and the fact that I got to experienced it with my best friend made it all so much more special! I know that this destination is one at the top of most peoples travel list, so I thought I would give you the low-down on exactly what the big apple is actually like.

1. It's EXACTLY what you think it is. But on the other hand, it's COMPLETELY different to what you expect. Everything is ten times bigger, busier and louder and it really is the city that never sleeps. Yet the lack of McDonalds was very concerning.

2. If you're a vegetarian, don't expect to eat much more than pancakes and chips. Make sure to jot down any restaurants you like the look of when you're wandering round in the day to avoid a 45 minute walk to find somewhere. If you're gluten free though, you're all sorted!

3. Some things are much cheaper, others are more expensive. A Naked Palette for $60, no thanks! But hello, Michael Kors card holder for $20!

4. Going on a Big Bus tour will give you a better insight about the city. You'll be told where to find the flats of Taylor Swifts, Bey and Jay Z and Oprah Winfrey and you'll also see the public library were Carry Bradshaw got ditched by Big in THAT scene!

5. Century 21 will be your best friend when buying gifts for loved ones. Think of it as the American version of TK Maxx. Big brands, cheap(er) prices.

6. Like Starbucks? There's one on every street. Also helpful if you get lost and need some WiFi.

7. Expect to hear a lot of "Where you from?" or "Are you English?!". When you answer yes, you'll probably be asked if you're from Manchester. No. No I'm not.

8. You'll definitely regret not going to see a Broadway show. We saw Wicked and I can honestly say it was one of the best moments of my holiday. It isn't cheap though at $110 a ticket (we got the cheapest ticket).

9. If you're going up the Empire State Building, definitely wait to do it at sunset. You may have to wait a little bit longer (although we walked straight in) but seeing the city in daylight, sunset and night time will definitely make the waiting worth while.

10. The 9/11 Memorial will be the most emotional experience in your holiday.

11. You WILL get lost. At least once. Just find your way back on Fifth Avenue and you will be fine!

12. On that note, Fifth avenue is what dreams are made of. Michael Kors, Tiffany's, Victoria Secret, Mac, Ted Baker and SO much more!

Have you got any more tips to add? I'd love to hear them!

  1. I went to New York 3 years ago and I loved it! It was so weird walking around because I felt like I knew it already since I've watched it in so many films and tv shows. And I loved how the city is in a grid system, made it so easy to get around.

  2. I loved New York, it's everything I expected and more. I'm going back in December and I've learnt to organise myself a bit more this time. The 9/11 memorial was so sad but interesting too. I want to visit the freedom tower next time. Definitely going to a show this time too xx
